John J. Murphy, retired from the Circuit Court in Broward County, Florida after serving more than 21 years on the bench. He served in the civil and criminal divisions. In the civil division, he presided over the Complex Civil Trial division which included asbestos, tobacco, and medical malpractice cases. In the Criminal Trial division, he presided over trials consisting of violent crimes, murder, armed robbery, and sexual battery.
Prior to serving as a Circuit Court Judge, John practiced civil law for 25 years in the practice areas of Real Property Law, Construction Litigation, and Wills, Trusts, and Probate. John practiced law in Broward County from 1977 to 2003. He was elected to the bench in 2003, retiring in July 2024.
John graduated from Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania with a B.S Degree in 1974. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Stetson University College of Law in 1977.
